ISLAMABAD Dec. 15 (    ) The OPF Will celebrate International Migrants Day (IMD) on 18th December this year in recognition of the services of Overseas Pakistanis, which they render to strengthen the economy of Pakistan.

 Addressing the high level meeting with senior officers held here on Monday, the Managing Director highlighted importance of the event in order to acknowledge the valuable contribution of Pakistani expatriates, who are remitting foreign exchange of around 20 billion US$ annually through legal means, which is almost equal to realization of our export target. He said there are around 9 million Overseas Pakistanis, who have been playing their vibrant role in the development of host countries, which is also acknowledged among international community.

 The International Migrants Day is celebrated across the world on 18th December every year according to the International Convention, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1990. He said that theme of the event for this year was designed “Reintegration of Returnee Migrants – Issues and Challenges”. He said that OPF is establishing “Facilitation and Reintegration Centre” (FRC) at islamabad to address the issues and challenges of returnee migrants. This Centre will evolve a comprehensive strategy to facilitate the returnee migrants.

 Managing Director said that OPF has planned to convene a Seminar on this day in collaboration with International Labor Organization (ILO) in Islamabad, which will be graced by the Federal Minister, chairman Standing Committees, Chairman OPF BOG, Government high ups, diplomats, scholars and dignitaries. Besides, Governors of OPF Board (BOG) and members of Overseas Pakistanis Advisory Committee (OPAC) will also participate in various sessions of the seminar.

 BOG had planned OPs’ Convention, however; it was decided to postpone it for three months in order to increase the participation of OPs.
