Biography

Racing at a National championship can unnerve and test even the most seasoned of athletes. However, 11-year-old COMAST Regional squad swimmer Afia Minhas, took it all in her stride last weekend racing in her first ever national level competition.

Months of hard work culminated in Afia taking part in the 17th National Women’s Junior Age Group Championships, organized by the Punjab Women’s Swimming Association and held at the Wapda Sports Complex in Lahore, Pakistan. The event was supported by the Punjab and Pakistan Swimming Federations.

Afia competed in six events, the maximum allowed for her age group, and all her hard work in training paid off as she came away with 2 Silvers in both the 100 Backstroke and 100 Fly, 4 Golds in the 200 Free, 200 Backstroke, 200 I.M and 100 Freestyle. She also broke 4 national records in the process. Finally, she was named top national athlete in her age group. Afia will be taking the results and learning experiences and using them as a stepping stone for the future.
